The Ask
Broaden reach and foster community of plant lovers with a marketing strategy that elevates key brand goals and generates thousands (of followers, interactions, and sales) for a local small business.
Online, I adapted the brand's overall website user experience by expanding fulfillment method options beyond local pick-ups, streamlining site navigation for easier exploration, implementing SEO and storytelling principles to drive traffic, revamping product photography to boost ATCs, and instituting off-site tools, like Meta Shops and Google Shopping, to garner more unique visits and nationwide sales.
On social, I crafted a unique marketing strategy that aligned with the brand's personality in ways that would ensure goal-getting across all mediums. This included standardizing the brand's tone of voice, implementing a regular posting cadence, and creating relevant content buckets to boost followership and interactions. To bring this strategy to life, I designed, wrote, and managed creative content across channels while also tracking insights and trends to better inform future ideation and planning.
In-store, I quickly became a plant expert—using that newfound knowledge and my creative experiences to the brand's benefit. Here, I planned large-scale events (like our annual Earth Day Extravaganza) and even produced one-of-a-kind monthly stickers that customers collected free with any purchase.
The Impact
In a matter of six months, these efforts earned this experiential plant shop nationwide recognition and further fostered a community where plant people of all levels could learn and grow together.
Online, website upgrades offered a more refined user experience that ultimately boosted sales and unique visits. In addition, implementing nationwide shipping alongside off-site shops took the brand beyond its home in Somerville, NJ—expanding their reach to plant lovers across the country, from California to North Carolina.
Digitally, email marketing strategy shifts (which included design improvements and accurate linking) boosted the brand's attributable sales—earning them two to four times more revenue compared to previously deployed campaigns.
On social, strategic guidance and custom content creation moved mountains for this small business—garnering 4,800% more content interactions on Instagram and 126% growth in link clicks on Facebook.
In-store, event planning and advertising efforts generated 50% more revenue compared to past shop events. plus, my custom illustrated stickers replaced AI- and Canva-generated graphics. This more personalized investment in free-with-purchase merchandise allowed customers to collect more than 3,500 stickers, improving brand recognition and sparking conversation.
